Going Beyond the Diagnosis: ND-Affirming Healthcare

Adapting our responses to better provide healthcare for neurodivergent young people

A diagnosis tells us a label. It doesn't tell us much about the person sitting in front of us: how they feel pain, what overwhelms them, how they communicate, or why the waiting room might already have used up half their spoons. This 30-minute webinar is about that part.

Who it's for: Health professionals who work with neurodivergent people, including GPs, nurses, emergency and hospital staff, and allied health. Parents and carers are very welcome too.

Why it matters: Neurodivergent people are far more likely to come into contact with health services, and adolescence is the window when identity and self-advocacy are taking shape. How we assess, explain and respond in those moments has real power. Small, neurodiversity-affirming adjustments can make care safer, more accurate and more respectful.

What you'll get:

  • A neuro-affirming lens for healthcare. What neurodiversity-affirming care actually looks like, why language matters, and where traditional behaviourist approaches fall short.
  • A better way to assess. Looking upstream to interoception, sensory processing, communication, anxiety, executive functioning and social understanding. You'll also see practical adjustments like processing time, predictability and asking before touch.
  • Neurotypes, made clear. Spoon theory and fluctuating capacity, stimming, masking, shutdown and burnout, the double empathy problem, monotropism, rejection sensitivity and more. Plus actionable next steps for your own practice.

Watch it free, any time. No sign-up needed.
